TRACOM Today

TRACOM is constantly seeking new training methodologies and capabilities to prepare officers to adapt to the rapidly changing environment. It aims to further leverage on the state-of-the-art training facilities in Home Team Academy (HTA) and develop high quality training curriculum and delivery to meet the changing profile of trainees and the operational needs of SPF. There are now more scenario-based training sessions at the HTA’s Training Village to inject more realism into the curriculum. Tactical live firing has been introduced to selected basic courses to allow officers to experience live firing in pairs in a mock-up setting. The Police Standard Obstacle Course at HTA was also developed to simulate the actual operating environment of frontline officers.

The hands-on practical scenario-based training provided by TRACOM is further enhanced by the use of modern and state-of-the-art technology. There are now more e-Learning and distance learning modules incorporated into the various courses to optimise training time. Emphasis is placed not only on theory but more importantly the application of the various laws, policies in real life scenarios. Case studies based on actual events, role plays and practical exercises are used to inject realism into the training curriculum. The use of the video recording system at the HTA’s Training Village provides trainers and trainees an essential facility in which they could share, learn and review their actions by playing back audio and video recordings. An extensively researched Firearms Simulation System has been developed to provide trainers and trainees with realistic combat shooting simulations. This provides the participants with a better understanding of the tactical response and firing techniques.

TRACOM is also seeing a rise in participation by foreign officers in its training programmes. Their participation has helped to facilitate the sharing of professional knowledge and offer networking opportunities to SPF officers.

TRACOM will continue to explore and develop ways to improve its people, systems and processes. Its ultimate goal is to ensure that training continues to be the key lever to SPF’s operational excellence and that it remains a premier law enforcement academy beyond the region.
