With this mission in mind, our vision is to build an exemplary training institute committed to championing a learning culture in the Singapore Prison Service. We are dedicated tonurturing Prison staff into Captains of Lives.

Our core duty is twofold. Firstly we ensure that new officers are well trained and equipped with the necessary skills to manage inmates under our custody. Secondly we provide continuous training for our serving officers to help them improve their core competencies with the aim of furthering their career progression and personal development. These objectives are achieved through the Basic Officers’ Course and the Supervisory Course respectively.

Basic Officers’ Course (BOC)

All new Senior Prison Officer (SPO) and Prison Officer (PO) trainees undergo BOC in PSTS @HTA upon successful appointment by our Recruitment Branch. The BOC comprises 3 Phases, namely Phase 1: Residential Phase, Phase 2: On Job Training Phase and Phase 3: Developmental Phase. In each phase, highly qualified and experienced trainers are called upon to impart the fundamental jail craft skills and knowledge to the trainees .

Supervisory Course

In relation to career progression for serving POs, we conduct 3 supervisory courses namely Intermediate Supervisory Course for Corporals, Advanced Supervisory Course for Sergeants, and Prison Officer Command Course for Staff Sergeants. These courses equip serving officers with the core leadership and counseling skills that will enable them to lead their subordinates more effectively.

We aspire to be captains in the lives of offenders committed to our custody and we protect society through the safe custody and rehabilitation of these offenders. We in PSTS are committed to our mission and vision in providing effective training to both new and serving officers.
