Home Team Training Village

The key feature of HTA is the Home Team Training Village which houses simulated facilities for trainees to undergo scenario-based training as part of the effort to inject realism into training. The purpose- built Training Village includes two distinct training areas demarcated as “commercial” and “residential” zones.

The Commercial Plaza is a specialised training simulation area comprising mock-up movable props, shops and service outlets in close proximity to simulate a typical ‘heartland’ neighbourhood location such as in Ang Mo Kio or Toa Payoh Central. It comprises four floors of different settings including a bank, ATM, discothèque and MRT platform.  The aim of the facility is to support various ground operations conducted by our Home Team units such as responding to armed robberies and carrying out search and rescue operations in a build-up area. It is developed with enough robustness to withstand the impact of FX marking cartridges fired during simulation training. A retractable polycarbonate skyline roof is installed over the open area of the commercial plaza to support an all weather training schedule.

The Residential Zone comprises a four-storey high HDB block with various apartment types for HT training. The HDB block comprises two to five room apartments, a maisonette, a playground, elevator and a coffeeshop. Scenarios played out in this zone include lift robberies, disputes, fights and theft.

Other facilities include a mock prison wing for prison officers to be taught prison routine, inmate control and management, as well as simulated border checkpoint for skills training in immigration clearance. There is also a simulated Neighbourhood Police Centre.

Set within the Training Village are customised training facilities called counter-terrorism (CT) stations designed to develop competencies of HT officers in their generic, practitioner and specialist roles as first responders. Each of the CT stations presents a specific terrorism-related scenario in which ground officers may encounter in today’s operational environment.
